Southern Ontario Gets Major Push for More Infrastructure

The development of new infrastructure in Canada has been gaining momentum in recent years, with politicians exhibiting more confidence when making statements surrounding future growth projects. This is due to a number of supportive initiatives from a federal and provincial government level that aim to strengthen the economy, connect communities, and improve quality of life.

In Ontario, Premier Kathleen Wynne recently announced a ten year investment of $130-billion, to be spent entirely on infrastructure projects within the province. Overall, 66 projects were announced to improve roads, highways and bridges, and over one million residents will benefit 51 water and wastewater projects, ensuring clean, safe drinking water.

Many of these projects will be in Southern Ontario, a region which includes Toronto, Ottawa, and 11 other cities with populations over 100,000 people, has a combined population of over 12 million people. This represents 35% of the total Canadian population, yet only takes up 0.008% of the land mass area of the province of Ontario, or about 0.00085% of the total land mass of all of Canada.

The opportunities are abundant for the construction industry, as many companies found who were in  attendance last week in Toronto at the 27^th Annual Construct Canada tradeshow. The show was held concurrently with PM Expo, HomeBuilder & Renovator Expo and World of Concrete Pavilion, as well as IIDEXCanada.
