At World of Concrete 2013, we caught up to one of our distributors from the East Coast. New England Dry Concrete (NEDC) has been distributing Kryton’s line of products for almost 10 years. As experts in stone and masonry restoration, they often need to seal very delicate structures with a product that can maintain the natural look of the original materials. Bill, co-owner of NEDC, was telling us about one of our products they have had tremendous success with. “My favorite non-crystalline product that Kryton manufactures, without a doubt, is Hydrostop (available as Hydropel in the USA).” He continues “It is by far the best sealer that we have ever used, and we’ve tried them all.”
Hydrostop Sealer is a clear, water-based sprayable liquid which activates a water repellent effect on the surfaces of concrete, brick, mortar and masonry. It contains a unique blend of silane and siloxane compounds which chemically react with silicates below the surface of the substrate. The result is a virtually invisible layer of protection against water penetration.
“After it’s on, you don’t know it’s on there,” says Bill “and the client will come up and say, ‘are you sure you did this wall?’ or ‘are you sure you did this building?’ and you can just take a pail of water, and throw it at the building – and it (the water) sheets right off. It’s quite amazing actually.”
Bill and his partner Greg have used Hydrostop in many restoration projects around New England, including historic Royal Mills Apartments in Rhode Island.
