On 16 acres of beautiful landscaping in Guatemala City, sits the educational center of La Aurora Zoo. The Zoo’s mission aims to ensure and promote the preservation and conservation of all animal species, both native and exotic, and contribute to the recreation of Guatemalan families through a natural learning environment.
In the heart of the zoo, sits the busy education center, appropriately named ‘La Colmena’, or ‘The Hive’. This center consists of a number of single level round concrete rooms, connected in a similar fashion to that of the cells of a honeycomb. The concrete roofs of these structures had developed many cracks, which leaked tremendously during the frequent, torrential Guatemalan rainstorms.
The owners contacted our Guatemalan Distributors (Duratop), and they quickly went to work with Krystol products which they knew would solve the continuous leaks permanently.
The Krystol Crack Repair System consists of three products: Krystol Plug, Krystol T1 and Krystol Bari-Cote. These three cementitious products grow microscopic crystal shards, upon the products contact with water. These crystals block the pores of the concrete, preventing water penetration for the life of the structure. As the years go by, the product only gets more and more watertight, rather than breaking down over time as many membranes or other crack repair products do.
Using the Krystal Crack Repair System, the leaks were successfully repaired, and the facilities remain dry for their many guests.
